My favourite part of my trip to France in the summer was a stop in the small village of Vezelay. I had read about Vezelay in a travel guide before leaving and decided it would be a good and restful contrast to the density and action of Paris. It certainly didn’t disappoint. Vezelay is renowned for the Vezelay Abbey which houses the sacred relics of Mary Magdalene and as a starting point for the pilgrimage of The Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela. In hindsight, I wish I could have spent more time in Vezelay, it’s ancient streets, historic churches and serene setting provided a relaxing break in my otherwise hectic vacation.
